James is my husband, and an expert on me...most of the time. He's also a bartender and a budding photographer. You can follow him on Instagram at @childish_bartender or photographybyjc.

James Child
My husband, James

How did you get started with being an expert in your field?

I started dating you, then I guess I stuck around for a while. But, it was fun. Like everything it takes some time to figure things out.

Do you feel like an expert? Why or why not?

Sometimes I feel like an expert, sometimes I’m just lost. I guess it depends on the day, but everyday is different that’s part of the adventure.

Have you seen any changes in me in the past few months since I’ve been taking better care of my mental and physical health? Why/why not? (it’s fine if you haven’t )

You’ve had more energy at times, which is nice. Our schedules are pretty different so we’re really both tired at different times. Both of us having more energy on those off times has been really nice especially with how busy our work schedules have been.

What was your favorite date that we went on?

Vanilla Cheesecake & Wing night, that was a fun one. But really anytime we get to catch up and spend together is nice, it’s not really ever about what we’re doing, just that we’re together.

What are your thoughts on becoming an Instagram husband?*

*Authors note: He hates it

No one outside of my industry recognizes me, so that’s nice. I like my privacy.

Was there a specific moment in time that you knew you were in love with me or did it happen gradually?

I’m gonna say it happened gradually, it’s still happening. I mean I’m still here so that’s cool.

What was the worst fight we’ve ever gotten into?

The GROCERY LIST. Still a constant battle, but it’s been one of the new changes in the last couple of months.

What’s the best/worst advice you’ve ever gotten? (either related to your specialty or not)

It’s just Dinner. I work in restaurants at times it can be really easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment when you’re busy and let your frustration take over, you just need to ground yourself, remember it’s not always life & death.

Please write a short paragraph to yourself 10 years in the past or future

How did the kids turn out? Are they as short as you think they’ll be? Did that whole opening a restaurant ever take off? Barley & Brine would be a cool name. Take a deep breath, I’m sure you still get mad. Never thought you’d end up here, did ya, well ya did so congrats. Hope you’re still alive.

What was your first AIM screen name or email address?

Probably some less than witty variation on my name, birthdate or some hard rock band I was into at the time. I like to forget my early teens, they were weird.
