How to Deal with a Case of the Mondays

Let’s face it. We all have those days that when you wake up, wish you lived in a malfunctioning smart house that won’t let you leave. You wish for a snow day in the middle of August. Because it’s Monday and (for most of us) that means going back to work. Even if you love your job, you’re going to have moments of “do-I-have-tos” and “I-don’t-wannas.”
Here are some tips to start the day on a positive note and keep it on track.
Prepare a kick-ass outfit the night before
For one, it’s always fantastic to have one less thing to do in the morning. Plus, who doesn’t love looking good? You look good, you feel good, you do good. *Hot tip* when you don’t feel like dressing up, put on earrings for an easy confidence boost.
This is something that can be done everyday, not just on Mondays! Lay out your outfit the night before so you don’t have to think about it in the morning. If you’re feeling fancy, pick a few and choose in the morning, like celebrities do during awards season (sometimes).
Start your day with gratitude
This is such a simple but effective practice. Pick three things you are grateful for and write it down. This will help you realize what you do have, rather than what you don’t. It doesn't have to be a super deep reason, either. Here are some of my go-tos:
My cats
My hubby (not in that order)
Dinner with friends
Phone calls with my sister
Being motivated in the morning
The sun being out
Take a walk outside if you can
Getting out of the office (if you work in the office) can be a great vibe reset. Listen to a podcast or call a friend/family member to chat with while you walk or sit. On nice days, I enjoy eating my lunch outside on a bench. Being in nature has always made me calm, as does being near a body of water. If you work outside, even a change of setting will help you reset.
Have a Monday treat planned
I know people tend to have Friday treats, but don’t you need it more on Mondays? I know I do. Chocolate is always nice… just saying.
Have a Monday morning ritual
I like to check my email, then make oatmeal and my morning drink (usually a tea or latte) before working through my email and priorities for the day/week. This help me not freak out on the way to work wondering what I’m going to do when I get there after the weekend away.
What are your favorite Monday tricks? Meal prep? Going to bed early on Sunday?
