Low-vibes happen to everyone. If you’re happy all the time, you may be an alien. If you get low-vibe, that’s ok, it doesn’t mean you will be low-vibe for the rest of your life. (Looking at you Branch from Trolls...great movie by the way) Low-vibes happen and most of the time it’s worth fighting them and getting in a high-vibe mood.

1. Text or call a friend

99% of the time, friends make things better. Good friends do at least. You should be able to text or call a friend and be cheered up by talking to them. If you feel comfortable, let me know why you’re feeling down. If not, just send a “hey, how are ya?” type text and strike up a conversation. Chatting with someone will get your mind off what’s making you feel down and help you feel better.

2. Take a 2-5 minute journal break

Getting your thoughts out of your head and on paper is therapeutic. You may not realize you are feeling a certain way until you get it onto paper. Let your writing flow and write everything you’re thinking. No one needs to see this. If you want to share, you can, but this is just an exercise to calm down and vibe up. If you don’t feel like writing what’s in your head, imagine where your life will be in 5 years and write about it. Or write a letter to yourself from 5 years ago. What would you tell them?

3. Turn on some tunes

It’s hard to be annoyed or angry when you are being serenaded by Justin Timberlake or being pumped up to by Beyoncé. Ya know? Dance it out if you can. You can put on some oldies, classical or rap depending on your mood. Music is an instant mood-booster (and may drown out annoying co-workers, just saying).

4. Eat a snack/drink some tea

Could you potentially be hangry? I personally get quite hangry (just ask my husband). Grab a quick (or not so quick) snack. This could give you the boost of energy you need. *If you’re not hungry but want a little something, try a cup of tea. Tea helps relax and center me. Hot chocolate, ice tea and seltzer work too!

*If you’re not hungry, you don’t have to eat. This is just a suggestion of what helps me when I am low-vibe.

4.5 Drink some water

Even if you aren’t thirsty, you should be drinking water throughout the day. Being hydrated increases energy, focus and much more. It’s a good practice to drink a large glass of water first thing each morning. Your body gets dehydrated when you sleep and it’s important to have a glass of water before coffee. Looking to spice it up? Try putting lemon or cucumber slices in your water.

5. Take a lap

Get up and walk around a bit. If you can, take a walk outside. If not, walk to the bathroom or around your office floor. Change your physical location if possible. Do some jumping jacks. Stretch or do some quick (standing) yoga moves in the bathroom. As my good friend Elle one said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don’t kill their husbands. They just don’t.” In this case, exercise doesn’t have to a 5K or picking things up and putting them down. Just get your blood flowing.

These are my go-tos when I’m feeling low-vibe. What do you do to cheer yourself up?
